Magazine Article first draft

This is my first draft for my magazine article

Headline: Jimny JA51 1984: 4x4 Icon of the Past

author : Manu, 30 year old offroad 2020 champion (Indonesia Series)

Subheading :

1. Wheels

The wheels of the suzuki jimny might look cute and tiny relative to its small structure. Factory built wheels doesn't look reliable when it comes to offroad capabilities. These days, people will modify the wheels from the basic 15-inch to around 30 inches above.

The wheels applied on the picture are made for offroad. As an offroad enthusiast myself, these wheels come in super handy when it comes to conquering terrains. Its big wheels give it a lift off the ground giving more ground clearence to the jimny. By just the change of wheels just like buying new flashy shoes, makes the car 100 times better.

2. Engine

Its common engine for its four generations is having a four-cyclinder 998cc engine pushing around 60-80 horses. A usual first impression of people is "oh my god 40-50 horses on a car?! thats too slow" or "998 CC? isnt that too little?" . This car isn't impressive when it comes to the performance of road usage, but when it comes to offroad that is where the engine starts to let out its roar. 40-50 horsepower might seem puny to those modern cars of these days, but Suzuki has tuned it perfectly to match the jimny's compact size and offroad intentions. The engine was designed not for pushing horses but to emphasise torque power, though low power the torque was proved to be invaluable when it comes to tackling inclines or navigating through rough roads.

Though through the years Ive used this chunk of metal, I know that suzuki has designed the engine to be simple and reliable. Eventhough lacking in modern systems, it gives a simple design that was easy to repair and maintain, this is a key feature when it comes to offroad enthusiasts. Modifying and repairing is keen when it comes to conquering terrain, applying more power or even fixing a piston, Suzuki has made it easier for people to fix especially in situations where a car breaks down in the middle of the forest.

3.Interior

While the cabin looks very compact and tiny, Suzuki has designed it carefully to maximise its utility with decent headroom and amazing visibility .

My first impression of the interior wasn't pleasent, the shock of being used to clicking buttons and automated systems was all non-existent in the Suzuki Jimny. Two seats in the front and a row of seats at the back. A shifter located in the middle, and surprisingly the centre console includes a working air conditioner! Unexpectedly as well it works just as good as a modern car air conditioning. The steering wheel, back in the days people weren't developed in technology, suzuki designed the interior to be simple and comfortable fit for offroading. Unlike today's steering wheels which are fillled with buttons. the jimny is just one big circular wheel, similar to a helm but with a horn in the middle.  Suzuki designed the steering wheel to be big, well big compared to the steering wheels today, since the cars doesn't come with power steering.

Power steering is a power assistance that allows the person on the wheel to steer the car easier, without it its just another arm exercise. When stationary the jimny's wheel feels like trying to pull a rock, brute strength is required to move the wheel.

The seats may look unpleasant through pictures, though if felt in real life, it feels comfortable for a car made to do offroad. While it doesnt have feautres like automatic seat adjustments or even seat adjustments aren't available such as moving the seats forwards or backwards. But a factor that still allows Jimny seats to still be comparable to today's cars is that its cushioning is durable and comfortable.

A key point to look at as well is that due to the lacking of technical features inside the car, it may get dark at night. Difficult to locate the shifter and other buttons in the car. The jimny's interior doesn't have neon lighting that surrounds the car making it look futuristic, rather its just a simple centre console with an added steering wheel. The only source of light that can be found is at the back seats and the light coming from the analog speedometer (if the headlights are turned on),

Though this gives loads of modification ideas to offroad enthusiasts, the empty interior gives a lot of options for possible accessories inside the car. Which for people that enjoys modifying cars and doesn't mind spending a little bit of money , will find it fun to be creative in decorating the car.

I found this task very hard for me because its quite difficult when I have to write 700 words. I had to do lots of research on the jimny and mix it with my experience as well. To add I also had to write as a perspective of another person other than me as since if the article was written by a 16 year old people wouldn't care to read it.  Thus, I need to keep a constant style of writing to make it trustable. Other than that I kind of enjoyed reading information about the jimny, eventhough it took me nearly 3 days and I barely got an brief understanding it was still interesting.
